My Intercultural Communications Class - 1153 Words

There are many topics that I think are important to cover in any intercultural communications class! Despite the fact that many students have lived in America their whole life does not mean that they completely understand the society around them. Also, I believe that because the world is moving to a more â€Å"global village† view it is important for students to learn about international cultures as well. For intercultural though I believe there are a few necessary evils that must be covered. First and foremost, the elderly and children must be analyzed in such a class. There will always be someone younger and someone older than you—in fact many people fall in these categories and thus you must learn to relate to them in society. For my generation we live in a disposable world with plastic dining ware, more shoes than our age, and every beverage now comes in throw-away bottles. My grandparents save everything, such as Christmas cookie tins, since they see a use in it later as they would have in their youth. They see the value in everything and when we call them â€Å"hoarders† they retort by calling us â€Å"wasteful.† The youth are also an enigma to my generation. We grew up with them running on our coat tails and nothing more than a bothersome kid.
